Photobiomodulation

What is Light Therapy?

Photobiomodulation, commonly known as light therapy, is the non-invasive use of infrared and near-infrared light to heal the brain. At TN Neurofeedback, we use the Neuradiant 1070 Helmet designed by Neuronic (neuronic.online) to increase the effectiveness of neurofeedback by introducing healthy energy to the brain, decreasing inflammation and cellular waste, and increasing circulation.

Who is PBM for?

Photobiomodulation is useful for many of the same symptoms we treat with neurofeedback:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Dysregulated Sleep
  • Long COVID and Brain Fog
  • ADHD
  • Cognition and Mental Clarity
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Dementia and Neurodegenerative Diseases

How Can I Access PBM?

We offer three avenues for clients to receive light therapy:

  1. In-Clinic Sessions: Clients can opt to add a PBM session onto their regular neurofeedback sessions.
  2. Helmet Rentals: Clients can rent the helmet monthly and use it at home up to twice a day. This is a great option for families who want to use the helmet on more than one person.
  3. Helmet Purchasing: Clients who are interested in longer term helmet use can purchase a helmet directly from us.

How do PBM and Neurofeedback work together?

Neurofeedback gradually retrains the brain to produce healthier, more regulated brain waves. Similar to an intense workout, this requires significant energy output from the brain. Especially for brains that are burned out, the Neuradiant helmet gives the brain access to increased energy (ATP) that it can then use to respond more efficiently to the neurofeedback training.

Additionally, the Neuradiant entrains brainwaves using customized protocols based on a client’s qEEG brain map. For overactive minds, we can encourage the brain to calmer states by entraining alpha wave. For ADHD brains, we can stimulate healthier, stronger cognitive waves by pulsing light in the beta range.

Light therapy delivers powerful, short term results, while neurofeedback more gradually and permanently changes the brain. The combination allows you to feel better faster and teaches your brain to hold onto that change long term.

Is PBM Safe?

Yes! Light therapy is safe and non-invasive. It has very few potential side effects that can occur if the light exposure is too long, such as mild headache or agitation, which resolve quickly with discontinued use. PBM has been used for several decades in a variety of medical and therapeutic settings.
